Can an air gun be used for self-defence?

No, airguns are not recommended as a means of self-defence. You can’t use a weapon for self-defence, as you would be charged with assault with a deadly weapon. This is the case regardless of whether the person attacking you has a weapon or not, even a firearm or a knife. You similarly can’t threaten anyone with an airgun, and would be charged with brandishing a firearm if you did.
