Do I need a licence to own an air rifle in the UK?

By Published On: 18 March 2022Categories: Air Gun Law

In the UK, the Firearms (Dangerous Air Weapons) Rules 1969 requires you to have a licence, in the form of a firearm certificate, to own a more powerful air rifle.  Air rifles over the power limit of 12 ft/lbs (16-27 Joules) are classified as Section 1 firearms and are required to obtain a firearm certificate as well as other controls.  For low powered air rifles, no licence is required (below 12 ft/lbs)
